About Our Classes and Groups at Wild About Outdoors

At Wild About Outdoors, we believe that the best learning experiences combine rigorous academic preparation with the joy and excitement of outdoor adventures. Our classes and groups are thoughtfully designed to provide a balanced approach to 11+ exam readiness, fostering both academic excellence and personal growth. Here’s a closer look at what we offer and how our unique approach can benefit your child.

1. After-School Focused Sessions:

Wild About 11+ KS2 After-School Club

Our after-school club is designed specifically for children in Key Stage 2 who are preparing for the 11+ exam. We offer sessions on Mondays and Thursdays:

  • Monday Sessions: Focus on English and Verbal Reasoning followed by enrichment activities like painting. These sessions develop imagery, vocabulary, and creative expression, all critical skills for the 11+ exam.

  • Thursday Sessions: Concentrate on Maths and Non-Verbal Reasoning, complemented by clay sculpting activities. This helps children improve precision, accuracy, spatial awareness, and perspective.

Our after-school club provides a structured environment where your child can focus on academic skills while enjoying creative and hands-on enrichment activities.

11+ Exam Mastery Groups:

For Year 6 students, our 11+ Exam Mastery Groups meet on Mondays and Thursdays from 5:45 pm to 7:00 pm. These small groups of four students ensure personalised attention and targeted instruction, enabling students to master exam techniques and build confidence in their abilities.

2. Nature Explorers for KS1:

For younger children in Reception through Year 2, we offer the Nature Explorers After-School Literacy-Boosting Club. Meeting on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, this club combines play-related learning with a strong focus on literacy. Activities are designed to spark curiosity and develop foundational skills in a fun and engaging outdoor setting.

3. Thematic Holiday Adventure Days:

Our holiday programs are packed with thematic adventure days that make learning exciting and memorable. Each day focuses on different components of the 11+ exam through a variety of outdoor activities:

  • Math Mysteries and Logic Legends: Kids solve complex math problems within a fun narrative context.

  • Wild Writing Expeditions: Creative writing tasks inspired by nature and outdoor explorations.

  • Detective Quest Treks and Survival Skills Scenarios: Enhance problem-solving, teamwork, and critical thinking.

  • Code Cracking and Outdoor Escape Rooms: Develop verbal and non-verbal reasoning skills through engaging puzzles and games.

4. Unique Learning Environment:

We offer a unique blend of indoor and outdoor learning environments:

  • Spacious Garden with Outdoor Learning Resources: Our garden is equipped with wooden phonics, giant counters, giant measuring scales, and potion stations. These resources are creatively used to enhance all areas of 11+ preparation through interactive activities and challenges.

  • Designated Tuition Room: For adverse weather conditions and indoor learning elements, our tuition room provides a comfortable and focused space for exam preparation sessions.

5. Small Group Sizes:

Our classes and groups are intentionally kept small to ensure a personalised and supportive learning experience:

  • After-School Club Groups: Typically have 6-8 children, providing a balance between personalised attention and group dynamics.

  • Exam Mastery Groups: Limited to 4 children for highly focused and tailored instruction.

Small group sizes allow us to:

  • Foster cooperation and academic collaboration.

  • Facilitate quality peer assessment and constructive feedback.

  • Create a competitive yet supportive environment that mirrors the selective school setting.

6. Beyond Exam Technique:

Our approach goes beyond traditional exam preparation. We focus on developing executive functions such as:

  • Time Management and Organisation: Through structured activities and clear routines.

  • Critical Thinking and Problem Solving: Via outdoor challenges and academic tasks.

  • Resilience and Adaptability: By encouraging children to tackle new and varied challenges in a supportive environment.

Conclusion:

At Wild About Outdoors, our classes and groups are designed to provide a comprehensive and enjoyable learning experience. By combining academic rigour with outdoor adventures, we help children develop the skills and confidence needed to excel in the 11+ exam and beyond. Join us and discover how our unique approach can make a difference in your child’s education!
